Ways to give donations - Car Donation

Do you have a car that you do not or cannot use?  Are you concerned that your car won’t pass a Smog check?  Or are you just sick of looking at it taking up space and you don’t have the time or want the hassle of selling it yourself?   

Donating your car to the Saratoga Education Foundation may be the perfect solution for you!  When you donate your car to SEF, you not only receive an easy tax deduction but the children of Saratoga Schools receive the benefits from the funds generated by your vehicle donation.  

Two local non-profit organizations, the Saratoga Education Foundation and Auction City have joined forces to make vehicle donation an easy way to give to our schools.  Vehicles donated to SEF are turned over to Auction City which assumes liability for the vehicle while it is being offered for sale on their lot in Redwood City.  Once the vehicle is sold, SEF receives 90% of the sale proceeds, although this amount will be reduced if repairs or additional work needs to be performed to pass a Smog Check.  Upon sale of the vehicle, SEF will provide you with a written acknowledgement of your donation and a statement of the tax deductible gross proceeds from the sale. 

The entire donation process is very simple: 

1)       Notify SEF of your intent to donate a vehicle by emailing car-donation@saratoga-sef.org or calling the SEF Car Donation Committee Member, who can answer any additional questions/concerns you may have.

2)       Contact Auction City to set-up a vehicle transfer date.  You must provide both the pink slip and proof of registration to Auction City when you physically hand over your vehicle.

3)       You, the donor, will receive a dated donation receipt from Auction City stating the make, model, and mileage of the vehicle.

4)       SEF will track the progress of your sale and, upon the sale of the vehicle, Saratoga Education Foundation will issue you a written acknowledgement of the sale explicitly stating the date of your donation and the gross proceeds of the sale for tax deduction purposes.
